Regardless of the outcome of the constitutional referendum held on January 14 and 15, it's heartening to see the women of Egypt turning out to vote. Thank you to Wafaa El Saddik for sending me this photo!

It's hard to believe that I am in my twelfth season of living and working in Luxor for six months of the year. And in May of 2015 this blog turned eight! I can only hope that I will have the good fortune to return to Egypt for many years to come.

ReplyDeleteI hope they didn't vote for their own oppression. I saw a survey the other day on CNN where women of several Middle Eastern countries were asked if they wanted to have their own choice in what to wear and only 17% of women polled in Egypt said yes. I couldn't believe it.
